Homework is expected to be fully completed and turned in on time each week. Please return all homework in the homework folder. A homework "bonus" will be given if all homework is completed for the week.
Planner Policy: All homework assignments are to be written in your child's agenda. This will be a new skill for them, but will help promote student responsibility and organization. The homework is posted on the board at the beginning of each day and students are required to write down their own assignments on the correct day. We work hard this year to develop good agenda habits. Although this site is a great place to reference homework, it should be used as a secondary resource. Parents are expected to sign the planner each night verifying that the student completed their nightly reading.
Math: Math will be given nightly and will be due back the next day. It is a good idea to study multiplication facts nightly!
Reading: Students should read 20-30 minutes at least 3 nights a week. This can be done independently or with an adult. When reading together please encourage your student to read aloud to you. Taking turns is a great compromise! In addition to reading, your child will be expected to do weekly reading comprehension activities based on the current standard being taught. This will include reading comprehension passage with multiple choice questions and/or a written response, due on Fridays.
Spelling/Grammar/Vocabulary: A spelling/vocabulary list will be given each Monday followed by practice activities throughout the week, and a test on Fridays. You will find the weekly spelling list glued into their agenda and vocabulary list posted on the website or via Flocabulary.com. Grammar skills will be taught in class on Friday and practiced throughout the following week.
When assisting your child with homework, please make their struggles learning opportunities. Guide them to the correct answer and encourage them along the way! Make sure to check out the subject resources tab for help! I look forward to working together as a team to help your child succeed.
